Malaysian Hajj quota set at 27,000

According to Pilgrims Fund (Tabung Haji) chairman Tan Sri Abi Musa Asa'ari Mohamed Nor, the Hajj visa quota for Malaysia has been set this year at 27,000.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Saudi Arabia has set the haj quota for Malaysia at 27,000 pilgrims this year, according to Pilgrims Fund (Tabung Haji) chairman Tan Sri Abi Musa Asa'ari Mohamed Nor.

He said they would leave for the Holy Land in stages with the first flight scheduled to depart on Sept 29 and the last on Oct 30. "The first will be a direct flight from the KL International Airport to Mecca," he told reporters after handing over Tabung Haji aid in conjunction with Ramadan to needy recipients here.

He said that Tabung Haji had paid up RM2.3 million in business 'zakat' (tithe) this year to the religious authorities.

The biggest recipients were the religious authorities in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, he added.
