(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The second humanitarian relief aid consignment, organized by Iran's red crescent society arrived at Mogadishu international airport on Thursday, and has now been distributed at refugee camps housing famine victims.
According to the press office of Iran's red crescent society, the second consignment, weighing 40 tons, was distributed at Somali refugee camps housing famine victims on Saturday.
Iran Red Crescent Society's third humanitarian aid consignment will be dispatched to famine and drought victims of Somalia soon.
Iran's first humanitarian aid consignment was sent to Somalia back in March of this year, weighing 70 tons and comprising of foodstuffs and medicines.
Five million people in Somalia are in danger of dying from starvation and famine. There is an urgent need for food, particularly children's food, as well as tents to house famine victims and medicines.
740 Somalis on average die each day because of starvation and famine, and according to figures released by UNICEF, some 30,000 children have lost their lives during the past two months in Somalia, because of drought and famine.
