Bahrain hires PR firm to alter image

Bahrain has hired a US-based public relations firm in an attempt to alter the reputation of the Manama regime and contest the press coverage of brutal crackdown on anti-government protesters in the Persian Gulf sheikdom.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Qorvis Communications in Washington DC was contracted for a monthly fee of $40,000 by the Manama government to try to save the image of the ruling Al Khalifa family regarding the brutal crackdown on peaceful anti-government protesters in Bahrain, according to a report on antiwar.com.

In its first statement to the press on behalf of Bahrain's ministry of health, Qorvis condemned Doctors Without Borders, which had earlier announced that its office in the Persian Gulf sheikhdom had been attacked by the Saudi-backed Bahraini forces and one of its employees had been arrested.

The Qorvis statement criticized the humanitarian group for treating injured Bahraini protesters “without any license issued by the health ministry.”

Thousands of anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations in Bahrain since mid-February, demanding an end to the Al Khalifa dynasty.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds arrested in the government clampdown on peaceful demonstrations.
