(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “We are happy that we are receiving more Iranians coming, representing the government of Iran, declaring the interest of the people of Iran, to have more relations in more fields and even diplomatic relation to the level of ambassadors,” Ahmed el-Ghamrawy of the Egyptian-Iranian Friendship Association said on Tuesday.
The Iranian delegation, headed by Chairman of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy Alaeddin Boroujerdi, arrived in the Egyptian capital of Cairo on Monday.
The delegation invited Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi and other Egyptian officials to an international conference to support the Intifada of Palestine, slated to be held in the Iranian capital of Tehran in early October.
Boroujerdi, acting as a special envoy for Iranian Speaker of Majlis Ali Larijani, also expressed hope that the two states restore their “full diplomatic relations” in the near future.
“In light of Iran's foreign policy towards Egypt and Egypt's important place in the Middle East, particularly after the revolution, the two countries have exchanged numerous diplomatic visits. Bilateral ties have started to grow fast. This means that eventually full diplomatic relations will be restored in the near future,” said Boroujerdi.
