(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Around 200 people embraced Islam in the first five days of Ramadan in Kuwait, a religious association has said.

“The number of foreigners who declared that they embraced Islam was 195 in the first five days of the sacred month,” Jamal Al Shatti, the head of the Committee to Promote Islam, said.

“We believe that many more people will announce their conversion before the end of the month,” he said in remarks carried by Kuwaiti daily Al Watan.

The committee is keen on looking after new Muslims and on promoting Islam through good words and deeds, he said.Ramadan this year started on August1 and is expected to end on August 29. Muslims abstain from drinking, eating, smoking and indulging in sensual pleasures from sunrise until sunset.

Kuwait is a predominantly Muslim country, but thousands of non-Muslims, mainly foreigners from Asian countries, live in the country.
