Pakistani leaders call for unity in Ramazan messages

Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani have urged the nation in their Ramazan messages to create unity among its ranks and not let extremism and sectarianism thrive, which is a source of conflict and discord.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “On the advent of this holy month, all of us have to pledge that, by always keeping before us the training of fasting, we will eliminate terrorism, sectarian conflicts and religious extremism from our lives,” the president said in his message at the start of Ramazan ul Mubarak. “It would create unity, accord and discipline in our ranks and will not let sectarianism and extremism - which is a source of mutual conflict and discord - to thrive,” he added. “This sacred month enlightens us with the teachings of love, brotherhood, affection, closeness and tolerance. We are fortunate to get the opportunity of acting upon the lofty and golden principles of this month and I hope that being Muslims, all of us will follow all these fundamentals,” he added. The president said, “In fasting Muslims wholeheartedly strives to fulfil the edict of Allah in every act of eating, drinking, seeing, hearing or talking and every Muslim is obliged to bow before every edict of Allah and act upon them wholly”. Prime Minister Gilani felicitating the nation on the start of the holy month of Ramazan has urged them to exhibit the spirit of tolerance, sacrifice, human respect and friendship to counter various challenges facing the country. “Pakistan is currently passing through a critical juncture as the menace of terrorism and extremism is not only harming our society but also the extremist elements are portraying the wrong image of Islam.” “To counter such challenges, it is the responsibility of our nation to demonstrate and exercise the spirits of moderation, patience, tolerance, sacrifice, human respect and friendship,” Gilani said in a message to nation on the advent of Ramazan-ul-Mubarak. Gilani urged the nation to forge unity of ideology and disallow any negative idea and always strive for becoming true Muslims and follow the teachings of Islam./129
