(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Islamic Digital Library System (IDLS) contract signing ceremony between the State Mufti's Department of the Prime Minister's Office and Alif Technologies Sdn Bhd for the Brunei Darussalam Islamic Library was held at the Information and Publishing Section of the State Mufti's Department on Saterday.

Signing on behalf of the State Mufti's Department was Dato Paduka Ahmad Bukhari bin PSRK Haji Abu Hanifah, Director of Administration of the State Mufti Department while Awang Haji Mohammad Arbi bin Haji Abdul Hamid, Chief Executive Officer of Alif Technologies Sdn Bhd signed on behalf of the company.

In his welcoming speech, the Director of Administration said the Islamic Digital Library System (IDLS) is desired to be accessible through the Internet. The system will provide research material facilities through 'Online Public Access Catalog' (OPAC), and also provide more efficient services such as the borrowing station, self-service (returning) Internet browsing, lab multimedia and other related facilities.

The system also has a Library Collection Management System which will help the librarians to better facilitate the management of the library.

He said that once the system is fully implemented, it would enhance the development needed in the Brunei Islamic Library (PIB) management as an instrument for the State Mufti's Department to implement its second main tasks - the realisation of the Islamic Knowledge Reference Centre.

According to him, the vision of the State Mufti's Department is to become an excellent Fatwa Institution and developer of the Islamic Reference Centre that will operate the agenda of collecting, developing, and spreading Islamic knowledge for the development and progress of the ummah.

The Islamic Digital Library System is expected to be fully operational in the middle of 2013. It will be continuously upgraded to provide facilities for the users, which is expected to increase every year.
