(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Cairo’s criminal court has postponed until 3 August the trial of former minister of interior Habib El-Adly, who is accused of ordering the killing of peaceful protesters during the January 25 Revolution.
The court also decided to prosecute El-Adly and ex-president Hosni Mubarak, who faces similar charges, in the same trial which will get underway next month, the lawyer said.
Ahram Online reporter stressed that neither El-Adly nor the supreme judge appeared in the courtroom Monday as the postponement was announced right away.
The session was followed by protests from martyrs’ families calling for retribution, amid stepped up security measures.
El-Adly was sentenced to five years in prison for squandering public funds in the infamous car plates case on 2 July. He was already given a 12-year sentence in May on corruption charges.
If he is found guilty of ordering the killing of demonstrators, El-Adly might well be served the death penalty.
