Interview with Hussain Abdulla, political commentator

US Fleet Move from Bahrain a Rumor

The US is widely criticized for its inaction toward Bahrain regime's crackdown on anti-government protesters and is reportedly considering the relocation of its fleet form Bahrain to the United Arab Emirates.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - We have interviewed Hussain Abdulla, a political commentator, to talk about the Bahraini regime crackdown on anti-government protesters and the US silence on the issue.

Q: The US is widely criticized for inaction toward Bahrain regime's crackdown on pro-democracy protesters. Will the moving of the fleet out of the tiny sheikhdom ease those criticisms?

Abdulla: I think the moving of the US fleet out of Bahrain is basically a rumor to serve the Washington purpose.

Washington has many critics inside the Washington DC circle, from human rights activist to some groups criticizing the Obama Administration for their lack of ethical responsibility towards the revolution in Bahrain towards the prodemocracy movement in the country, and to silence those critics, or to address such rumors that are being circulated among the policy makers and among journalists in Washington DC.

However, it is not being taken seriously by the western press, because the Obama Administration is one of the strongest supporters of Bahraini regime.

And despite of those new actions, the US payment is being enlarged and it is being constructed to be even larger in the future. So I think these actions serve only one purpose and one purpose only, and that is to bring ease to the Bahraini regime. And the Obama administration is completely ignoring the human rights issues in Bahrain.

Q: Do you think the so called Arab Spring is putting more pressure on US allies in the Middle East, and eventually threatening the US interests?

Abdulla: I do not believe that Obama Administration or the American foreign policy, is a policy of Prodemocracy among allies.

On the contrary, the Democracy viewed as a weapon against our foe, for example we do not like Gaddafi, so we go there to remove him from power and to establish democracy.

Although I think Gaddafi is a dictator, and I am not defending him. Same thing with Syria, Syrian regime is not liked by Washington so they are using democracy issue as a tool to remove Assad from power.

However, when the people of Bahrain want democracy, or when the people of Yemen want democracy; we do not see the same effort, the same enthusiasm, by calling the heads of regime that they must go.

The Arab spring are the movements towards democracy in the Middle East, the legitimate one, and are basically direct threats to American interest in the Persian Gulf region and in the Middle East in General.

Q: As you mentioned, rage in Arab countries are rising against the US for backing dictators for decades, do you see the US is the biggest loser in the Arab uprisings?

Abdulla: Look, there is no political solution for what is taking place in Bahrain. There is going to be a massive revolution in Bahrain, and that revolution is definitely force the US to leave Bahrain, because it would be an uncontrollable revolution, it will be a political mess that they[the US]created, by ignoring the need, and the demand of the Bahraini people.

So true democracy for these countries will force the US policy to change and adapt its policy towards these countries, because their political allies will no longer be in power, and therefore it would force the new relationship with the new elected governments in the Persian Gulf region.
