(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Member of the Bahrain Freedom Movement Saeed al-Shihabi underlined on Monday that Bahrain's genuine opposition forces have not entered talks with the al-Khalifa regime since rulers of the tiny Persian Gulf island continue ignoring people's demands.
"The regime does not believe in talks over the people's main demands and the genuine opposition figures have not yet entered talks with the Manama regime," Shihabi told on Monday, adding that the meeting between the al-Khalifa regime and the so-called opposition was rather a show by the regime.
"What has been mentioned in the media under the title of al-Khalifa negotiations with the opposition forces was actually a public meeting attended by 300 people most of whom had no knowledge of politics," he said.
During the meeting the participants didn't raise the Bahraini people's demands and this shows that the al-Khalifa regime is not committed to the materialization of people's demands, Shihabi cautioned.
Reports from Manama said the al-Khalifa regime still continues suppression of peaceful protests in the tiny Persian Gulf island despite the regime's claims about its intentions for resolving problems through negotiations.
Bahrain's rulers and opposition leaders had earlier alleged that they had started negotiations with the opposition.
Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February, calling for an end to the al-Khalifa dynasty's over-40-year rule.
Violence against the defenseless people escalated after a Saudi-led conglomerate of police, security and military forces from the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) member states were dispatched to the tiny kingdom on March 13 to help Manama crack down on peaceful protestors.
So far, tens of people have been killed, hundreds have gone missing and about 1,000 others have been injured.
