Egypt's Salafists proliferate with yet another Salafi party in the works

Adel Abdel Maksoud decided to step down as head of Salafi party, El-Fadila, and establish yet another Salafi party named El-Asala

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - General Adel Abdel Maksoud decided to step down as head of Salafi party, El-Fadila, establishing another named El-Asala.

Other Salafist figures Mohmed Hassan, Mohamed Abdel Maksoud, Mohamed Abdel Salam, Mostafa Mohamed and Mamdouh Gaber also withdrew from El-Fadila to join El-Asala.

El-Fadila was plagued by internal disputes that were not resolved, which prompted pivotal members to leave and establish a separate party.

Adel Abdel Maksoud said on Egyptian TV that he decided to sever all relations with El-Fadila after discovering a plot to change the principles of the party, which was based on a moderate Islamic Salafi frame of reference.

There are also two more Salafi parties on the Egyptian political arena, Al-Nour (The Light) and Al-Nahda (Renaissance Party).
