(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A member of 6 April Movement, one of the core political movements of the January 25 Revolution, has denied news published by the state run MENA news agency claiming the movement had announced that women would not be invited to take part in the Tahrir Square sit-in during the night but only in the daytime.
MENA stated that activist Hani Khorshed from the 6 April Movement said that the Cairo and Giza branch of the movement had taken a decision that the nightly sit-in was “for men only” and that he hoped women would abide by that decision.
However, 6 April spokesperson Mohamed Adel denied on Twitter that any such decision was taken, explaining that the movement has nothing to do with Khorsheid’s statements and that what he said was false. He added, “the sit-in for sure is for all”.
This is the second false news report to be published on the 6 April Movement and the 8 July protest call. The daily newspaper Youm7 had published a banner story in which it quoted unidentified security sources as saying that 6 April had planned to create chaos and mayhem on 8 July by storming prisons around the country. The movement slammed the report as a barefaced attempt to slander it and the protest call. There is a growing feeling amongst activists that a deliberate campaign of disinformation is being promoted to undermine the 8 July protest call.
