(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Malaysian Premier Najib Abdul Razak has called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to support the Freedom Flotilla II that was carrying humanitarian relief material to the Gaza Strip.
He said in a message published Monday by the Malaysian media that the fleet only aims at delivering the relief material to alleviate the Palestinian suffering.
The premier proposed appointing UN representatives to inspect the ships and volunteers aboard them to ensure before the world at large and before Israel in particular that the fleet only carries relief material.
He said that Malaysian activists along with hundreds others from various countries would be on board the ten ships.
Najib asked the UN top official to pressure Israel so as not to use force against the flotilla.
Meanwhile, a peaceful rally organized by civil societies in Gaza called on the world community and Ban Ki-moon to protect the Freedom Flotilla aid convoy.
Hundreds of Palestinian gathered in front the UN offices in Gaza on Monday asking for international protection for the fleet and for ensuring its safe arrival to Gaza shores.
A popular delegation handed a message addressed to Ban Ki-moon to director of the UN Secretary General’s representative in Gaza who promised to relay it to Ki-moon.
The message asked the Secretary General to retract his statement in which he urged the world countries not to encourage their citizens to take part in the flotilla and instead provide protection for the ships carrying humanitarian aid to Gaza inhabitants.
