For the second time this year, the Maranao Muslim Community (MARCOM) has sent some 2,000 kilogrammes of dates for the Filipino Muslims in Mindanao for the holy month of Ramadan.

DUBAI (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - For the second time this year, the Maranao Muslim Community (MARCOM) has sent some 2,000 kilogrammes of dates for the Filipino Muslims in Mindanao for the holy month of Ramadan.

Dates are precious to Muslims in the Philippines, who have not received such kind of gifts during Ramadan from any Islamic country except from the UAE, said Ibrahim Marohumbsar, chairman of the Maranao Muslim Community in Dubai.Other religious items such as 75 prayer mats, 20 sheila, 20 women’s praying dresses and 100 copies of the Holy Quran printed in big letters for the aged will be sent along with the dates. This year’s shipment is part of MARCOM’s annual charitable and community services to fellow Muslims back home under its Ramadan programme, now in its third year.

Camid B Pumbaya, president of MARCOM in UAE, said the group is transporting the dates and other religious articles early so as to distribute them through masjids and madrasas in time for the Holy Month of Ramadan in August this year.  The 2,000 kg of dates, the copies of the Holy Quran and 66 of the 75 prayer mats have been donated by the family of Wafa Kasimieh, senior adviser for Filipinos at the Islamic Affairs in Dubai.
