Al-azhar proximity forum to be revived

Al-Azhar figure counted the post-Mubarak era a proper time to revive the proximity center in the Egyptian renowned university.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Al-Azhar figure counted the post-Mubarak era a proper time to revive the proximity center in the Egyptian renowned university.

Sheikh Mahmoud Ashour, renowned figure of Al-Azhar University said the committee for proximity in Al-Azhar is to be expanded to a bigger center.

Sheikh Mahmoud Ashour hailed the time to be a good opportunity for resumption of proximity activities and said," We will revive the committee very soon so that we expand the committee to a big center."

He highlighted the need to strengthen ties between Shia and Sunni so that both stand united against the enemies of Muslims.

"Al-Azhar professors believe that in a great center of proximity, we can overcome sedition among Muslims and this way, we can play an important role in realizing proximity of Islamic schools of thought." said the Egyptian figure.

As of the present activities of the center he said," In the near future Muslim Ulima (scholars) Congress is to be held and we are deciding on inviting Islamic institutes for the event."

He rejected the political tending of the center and stressed that the primary role of Al-Azhar Forum for Proximity of Isalmic Schools of thoughts is to highlight the role of thinking because as far as Shia and Sunni value their commonalities, they can unite by putting the minor differences aside.

He also referred to the possibility of some renowned Muslim scholars joining the forum and said rather than Fiq'h, the activities of the center include Fiq'h of Islamic schools, religious sects, history of religions and denominations but the central committee belongs to the proximity of Islamic schools of thought.

Prominent proximity figure from Al-Azhar also announced the publication of some books and periodicals by the forum, meetings between Shia and Sunni scholars and conferences which are part of the future plans of this center.

Years ago following the meeting of grand Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Taskhiri, head of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought and former Iranian president Seyyed Mohammad Khatami to Cairo inspired some Egyptian figures among them Mahmoud Ashour, former deputy of Al-Azhar, Mohammad Al-Dosoughi, and Amina Nassir to made the best of the opportunity and resume the activities of the Proximity center of Al-azhar, established in ۱۹۵۰s.

Unfortunately, emerge of Hosni Mubarak, former Egyptian dictator and suspension of the committee put an end to the activities of the center.

Now following the public revolution in Egypt and topple of the dictator ruler of the country, religious figures of the center are making moves to bring a new life to the center.
