(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Nasser Abul, 26, was arrested on June 8 for allegedly offending friendly countries and harming national unity, the Arabic Network for Human Rights Information said.
'The arrest of a young blogger for criticizing the Arab rulers who accomplice to the Bahraini suppression of peaceful pro-reform protests is unacceptable and shameful,' the Cairo-based group said.
'They should have tried those who kill the unarmed civilians who were exercising their natural right to express their views,' the group added.
Kuwaiti Shia member of parliament member Hassan Jawhar had said that arresting Nasser Abul, a Shia, is a 'violation of freedom of expression and he should not stay detained without a charge. The Minister of interior affairs should be held responsible in this regard.'
Pro-democracy activists have used social media to share information and organise protests across the Arab region.
In the wake of the uprisings in Tunisia and Egypt, protests demanding political reform and greater freedoms in Sunni-ruled, Shiite majority Bahrain began on February 14.
Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) troops, led by Saudi Arabia, entered Bahrain in March at the request of the government, after violent crackdowns by security forces failed to stem the protests.
