(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - According to APS Website, Abdoulaye Wade approved a proposal by Ahmed Muhammad Ali, president of the Islamic Development Bank, to establish the first Waqf Bank in Senegal.
Muhammad Ali had proposed establishing the bank in his speech at the opening ceremony of the International Conference of Muslim Scholars in Dakar.
He had said the move aims to spread investments in charity affairs and helping the poor.
Senegal’s president told the press that the Islamic Development Bank and other Islamic institutions have played an important role in reducing poverty in Islamic countries.
He stressed that Senegal, with the help of these institutions has taken great steps in meeting its people’s economic needs.
He said establishment of the Waqf Bank could be another step in serving the needy in Senegal.
