The US and Britain “have not wavered in their support for the [Bahraini] regime; they have never said a word of real condemnation, apart from expressing concerns as a way to respond to increasing criticism coming from the public media and from NGO's in the West,” said Saeed al-Shehabi of the Bahrain Freedom Movement in an exclusive Press TV interview on Sunday.
“Apart from that, it is very clear that the White House is giving its full political security and moral support to the [Bahraini] regime. So the Bahraini regime feels that it is free to do whatever it likes,” al-Shehabi added.
The remarks come as the Bahraini regime continues with its brutal crackdown on the anti-government protesters in the small Persian Gulf sheikhdom.
On Sunday, Bahraini people held a demonstration in Diraz, condemning the death sentences handed to two anti-regime protesters.
Earlier, the Bahraini military court upheld the death sentences issued against the two men found guilty of killing two police officers.
Human rights organizations have voiced concerns over the closed trial of the men. Amnesty International has urged the ruling Al Khalifa family to halt the executions.
Bahrain has been sentencing political activists to death and imprisonment as part of the sheikhdom's efforts to suppress the opposition.
Anti-government protests against the rule of the Al Khalifa dynasty in Bahrain began in mid-February.
In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops in crisis-hit Bahrain to reinforce the brutal armed crackdown on Bahraini protesters.
Scores of protesters have been killed and many others have gone missing during the harsh crackdowns.
Most Bahraini media outlets have been blocked and several mosques have been demolished by the Bahraini government.
