Rodney Shakespear, Chairman of the Committee against Torture in Bahrain, further expounded on the issue in an interview with Press TV. The following is a rush transcription.
PressTV: What do you think about the lack of involvement of the United States and the United Kingdom, basically turning a deaf ear to what is going in Bahrain. Why would it be in the interest of London and Washington to turn a deaf ear to innocent people being tortured and killed?
Shakespeare: Because they have a false understanding as to what is the true long term interest of the United States and of the United Kingdom. In the UK, there are idiots in the foreign office, who say oh, it's our economic interest. But already the situation in Bahrain is such that the economy is going very rapidly down to tubes and no person want to trade with them and if the Khalifa killers wanted to do shopping in Paris or London, they have to make sure that they have at least fifty guns, because people would despise them.
It was interesting today that President Obama in his speech to IPAC which is the Zionist organization in the United States actually did touch on some very powerful democratic, demographic factors in the situation in respect of Israel and those factors are also there in the Middle East. So I'm afraid that the United States at the moment policy is controlled by Israel which demands that the situation be as it is in respect of Bahrain. But at some stage, the American State Department may well wake up to the fact that its long term interests are not being served by its disgraceful behavior and the same goals for the government of our country.
The facts on the ground are such that genocide is actually being committed. You have to look at the definition of genocide, look at the facts on the ground; genocide is being committed. It also the facts underground suggest that the mental mind set has become not just corrupted by perverse and you have got the beating up of the little girls.
Something has happened. They are out to destroy a culture and yet apart from the torture and the physical effects and the genocide, yet the world is not standing up for this. And this of course is also probably the Zionist control of all the media organizations, including the newspapers like The Daily Telegraph and the BBC in the UK.
We thank the human rights organizations; we thank brave people like Nabeel Rajab, who are doing their very best, but what matter is that people watching these programs should get off their back sides if they can do nothing else they should go on the internet and go straight to their MPs, they should go straight on that unions and demand some sort of political action.
PressTV: Do you think in general, what we are looking at in the world is that people feel less empowered , they almost feel impotent and able to respond, let's say lack of responses, from their own governments.
Shakespeare: Yes, they should take heart for what is the situation, for what is called Islamic awakening or Arab awakening or democratic awakening or a demographic awakening and that is a powerful one.
It's young people, educated, no jobs, rising food prices, the internet, and they should take heart on that, and see that although its slow process and it may take quite a bit of time, the fact of the matter is that more progress has been done in the last three months, then in thirty years. So they should look at the example and they should get off their back sides and go straight down the threats of those MPs and go straight at the British foreign office. They should go straight at the conservatives tell them exactly what they think and the message is getting out there due to Press TV, but more greater numbers are needed to make the impetus.
