In a letter to the president of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Theo-Ben Gurirab, on Sunday, Larijani expressed concern over the humanitarian crisis in Bahrain, Fars news agency reported.
"Parliaments, as representatives of the people, are expected to act upon their human duty and react to the massive violation of human rights and the critical situation in Bahrain... and to help prevent further continuation of the current situation," the Iranian official noted.
Larijani urged Manama to meet the legitimate demands of Bahraini people, and condemned the invasion of Bahrain by some regional countries, calling on the IPU to take measures to help put an end to the military intervention.
The top Iranian legislator also asked the IPU to set up an impartial fact-finding committee to probe the humanitarian crises in Bahrain, Yemen and Libya.
Thousands of anti-government protesters have been staging demonstrations on Bahrain's streets since February, demanding that the Al Khalifa dynasty relinquish power.
Bahraini regime forces, backed by Saudi army troops and mercenaries, have killed protesters and abducted hundreds of people, including journalists and opposition figures as well as doctors and nurses.
Established in 1889, the IPU works for peace, cooperation and the establishment of democracy in close contact with the United Nations.
The union also expresses views on international issues in order to bring about action by parliaments and parliamentarians, and seeks to contribute to the promotion of human rights.
