Egyptians to Hold Friday Mass Rally

Egyptian protesters have planned another million-man march next Friday, naming the rally as the “Day to Purge the Remnants of Mubarak Regime from Egypt.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Deputy of Egypt's former Appeals Court Chief on Tuesday called on all Egyptians, including Muslims and Christians, to take part in the upcoming protest on Friday in Cairo's Libration Square.

The call for rally comes three days after sectarian clashes between Salafis and Coptic Christians in the capital left at least a dozen people dead and hundreds injured.

The former Egyptian official said the elements of the former regime of Hosni Mubarak are behind the recent deadly clashes.

He added that the elements of Mubarak's regime seek to prevent the revolution from achieving its goals.

Since the ouster of Mubarak in a February revolution, Egyptians have persistently demanded the purging of all the remnants of his era.

Meanwhile, thousands of protesters were scheduled to stage a sit-in outside the state TV building in the capital on Wednesday, in response to Saturday's deadly sectarian clashes.

The protesters will demand that a torched church in Cairo's Imbaba district be rebuilt and the people behind the violence put on trial.

They will also urge the resignation of the head of the country's ruling military council, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, saying the military failed to protect the people.

On Saturday, the Saint Mena church was set ablaze following an exchange of gunfire between Coptic Christians and Saudi-funded Salafis.
