Senior Iranian military commander: Bahrain invasion to threaten Saudi Arabia

A senior Iranian military commander says Saudi Arabia's security will be threatened because of its invasion of Bahrain to help the crackdown on Bahraini anti-government protesters.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - A senior Iranian military commander says Saudi Arabia's security will be threatened because of its invasion of Bahrain to help the crackdown on Bahraini anti-government protesters.

“Saudi Arabia's unfair and un-Islamic moves will provoke Muslims in this country and will threaten the security of Saudi Arabia,” Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Iran's Armed Forces Major General Hassan Firouzabadi told Mehr News Agency on Sunday.

Maj. Gen. Firouzabadi went on to say that Saudi Arabia is worried by the uprisings and revolutions in neighboring Bahrain and Yemen, and the popular movements in Egypt, Jordan, Libya, and Tunisia.

Anti-government protests against the rule of the Al Khalifa dynasty in Bahrain began in mid-February.

“Having a military base in Bahrain, the United States felt worried, and since it cannot wage another war due to its internal situation and public opposition and the global conditions, Washington ordered Saudi Arabia as its mercenary to thwart the Bahrainis' popular revolution so that the US can maintain its base,” the top Iranian military commander noted.

In March, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait deployed their troops in crisis-hit Bahrain to reinforce the brutal armed crackdown on Bahraini anti-regime protesters.

Scores of Bahraini protesters have been killed and many others have gone missing during the harsh crackdowns by Saudi-backed Bahraini forces in the Persian Gulf country.

Most Bahraini media outlets have been blocked and several mosques have been demolished by the Bahraini government.

On April 28, Bahrain's military court sentenced four anti-government protesters to death in a bid to further crush the ongoing revolutionary movement in the Persian Gulf country.

Amnesty International and the Human Rights Watch have also condemned the Bahraini and Saudi regimes for their heavy-handed tactics against the Bahraini population.
