Hezbollah Condemns Bahrain’s Death Sentences

Hezbollah vehemently condemned on Thursday the death sentences issued by Bahrain’s military court against anti-government demonstrators as political.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Bahrain’s military court has sentenced four anti-government protesters to death for the killing of two policemen during demonstrations last month, in a move to further crush the ongoing revolutionary movement in the tiny Persian Gulf country. The seven defendants were tried behind closed doors on charges of “premeditated murder of government employees”, which their lawyers have denied.

In a statement it released, Hezbollah expressed its deep concern and great pain for the latest developments in Bahrain. It warned that the rapid developments the Persian Gulf country is witnessing these days could lead the situation to further and further deterioration.

While confirming vehement and complete condemnation for the death sentences issued against a number of Bahraini citizens, Hezbollah expressed belief the mentioned verdicts were a continuation of the consistent crime committed by the regime in Bahrain against the Bahraini people.

The Resistance party went on to say that the verdicts were political rather than judicial and highlighted that the attempt to give them a legal aspect wouldn’t succeed in hiding the truth of the oppression and injustice against the Bahraini people, just because they are demanding their basic legal rights.
