(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - During a gathering by Muslim scholars in the support of the Bahraini people, Sheikh Abdel Amir Qabalan, deputy head of the Shiite Higher Council, urged the Bahraini government to halt all forms of injustice and oppression against the demonstrators. “These are your people and citizens, remove the injustice and oppression upon them and don’t challenge people’s dignities,” Sheikh Qabalan said, addressing the authorities.
At the gathering, Sheikh Ahmad al-Zein, the head of the board of trustees of the Muslim Scholars coalition, said that the demands of the Bahraini protesters were legitimate but warned of a plan to derail their movement. “The demands of the Bahraini people are legitimate … but we were shocked by the level of the unjustified response by the Bahraini government which involved unacceptable collusion by Arab human rights groups,” Zein said. “There is a plan to deviate the purpose of people’s movement away from its just cause toward chaos and strife between the people and their rulers on the one hand, and between sects on the other … which serves Israeli and American projects and interests at the same time,” Zein added.
He also urged rulers and intellectuals to be vigilant concerning the alleged plan and warned them not to be dragged into sectarian strife. “We call upon the Gulf Corporation Council to stop the military operations and withdraw from Bahrain and seek to build means of dialogue between the Bahraini government and the opposition, as is taking place in Yemen,” Zein added.
