(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Grand Ayatollah Lotfollah Safi Golpaygani has strongly denounced the Quran burning and the demolition of mosques in Bahrain, urging the Islamic countries and organizations to send fact-finding delegations to the crisis-hit country.
In a message published on Wednesday, Ayatollah Safi Golpaygani has said that the Bahraini people like other Arab countries, which have been experiencing the Islamic awakening, rose up against dependent rulers and called for the establishment of a just Islamic system.
They staged peaceful demonstrations and invited the al-Khalifa regime to respect the people’s rights, he said.
He went on the say that while the Bahraini people were close to achieve their aspirations, the United States, which saw the Bahrain uprising as a threat to its interests in the region, ordered Saudi rulers to send military troops to Bahrain to put down protests.
“It is over one month that a legitimate intifada (uprising) has started in Bahrain,” the cleric said, adding, “Saudi forces have mercilessly committed genocide and killed men, women, children and elderly people, and even detained and tortured patients, nurses and physicians, attacked schools, burned Qurans, and pulled down about 30 mosques.”
“Why are the Islamic world’s organizations and officials silent? Why don’t they condemn the Quran burning and the demolition of mosques?”
In conclusion, the ayatollah calls on the Islamic countries, organizations, and forums to fulfill their religious duties through sending fact-finding delegations to Bahrain and expressing sympathy with the oppressed Bahraini nation.
