(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Al-Azhar Grand Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb will donate all his income since his appointment to his position to the state treasury to support the Egyptian economy.
Al-Tayyeb sent a check to the state worth 37,647 EGP (U.S. $6,722), his total income since his appointment as Grand Sheikh in March 2010, said a statement released by the Ministry of Finance.
The sheikh’s legal advisor said al-Tayyeb has not received bonuses or allowances since he assumed the position, according to state news agency MENA.
MENA reported that al-Tayyeb asked the Minister of Finance to stop issuing paychecks to him, as he does not want to receive any salary for his service at Al-Azhar and the call to Islam.
