(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Demonstrators that carried Bahraini flags and anti-Saudi placards chanted slogans in English and Arabic denouncing the atrocities of Bahrain's regime and the Saudi military intervention in the Persian Gulf Island to help the dictatorship suppress pro-democracy demonstrations
The rally resounded with calls of “down with Al-Khalifa”, “down with “Al-Saud”, “end Bahrain occupation”, “Bahrainis want democracy and freedom”, and “Shiites and Sunnis are brothers in Bahrain”.
A number of protestors dismissed claims by the Manama regime that the Bahraini uprising is rooted in sectarian conflicts saying the participants in protests are not Shiites standing up to a Sunni government, they are rather both Shiites and Sunnis as the latter have suffered many of the uprising's martyrdoms and injuries.
“We are against the dictatorship and crackdown of Al-Khalifa regime as well as the Saudi Arabian occupation [of Bahrain] and our protests have nothing to do with sectarian and ethnic issues,” one of the demonstrators, Hasan al-Fahimi said.
“A regime that resorts to foreign forces to suppress its own people, is not qualified to rule the country and should be ousted,” al-Fahimi added.
Another protestor, Gholam Ahmad, attacked the double standards of western governments in dealing with the uprisings in the Arab world.
“While western countries are struggling to topple the dictatorship in Libya, they have forgotten the Bahrainis over political and military considerations and are now complicit with the Al-Khalifa regime,” Ahmad said.
“Dictatorship, repression and violation of human rights have a single definition wherever you are and no distinction should be made between the freedom-seeking movements of the people in the Arab world over political and economic interests,” he added.
