(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Authorities in Bahrain today detained and beat a prominent human rights activist in part of widespread crackdown on the opposition in this tiny Persian Gulf nation, a Bahraini human rights group and his relatives said.
The Bahrain Center for Human Rights said Abdulhadi al-Khawaja and two of his son in laws, who formerly worked for international human rights organizations, was detained today in a pre-dawn raid.
Al-Khawaja's daughter, Zainab, confirmed the arrest and said her father was taken from her house outside the capital, Manama.
According to sources, Bahraini security forces who are supported by Saudi occupation forces entered Share Badi' village on the outskirts of Manama. Security forces prevent vehicles from entering the streets.
Bahraini military and security forces and Saudi troops created several checkpoints around the Alqadam Square in Manama.
