(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Exactly 30 years ago on the 12th of the Iranian month of Farvardin, corresponding with the 1st of April, the Iranian people held a nationwide referendum for selecting the unique Islamic Republic system of government that has not just proved durable despite the plots of Global Arrogance, especially the US, but continues to attract admirers in the region and the world.
Accordingly, this historic day has been named as Islamic Republic Day, and it is worth noting that this decisive referendum was held less than two months after the grand victory of the Islamic Revolution. The referendum showed that the Iranian people who overthrew the British-installed and US-supported Pahlavi regime, wanted nothing less than restoration of the laws of Islam that guarantee the freedom to build the future of the country and take it to the pinnacles of progress. This is evident by the success the Islamic Republic of Iran has achieved in such scientific fields as nuclear energy, space technology, stem-cells and other fields, something that was beyond imagination in the previous era. It is rightly said that now 30 years later, with communism already dead and capitalism on the verge of collapse, it is only the dynamism of the rules of the Islamic shari'a, as practically demonstrated by Iran, which can guarantee the smooth progress of human societies.
Once the Father of the Islamic Revolution, Imam Khomeini (May his soul rest in peace) raised the issue of referendum as a principle in determining the future of Iran's political system, many, especially in the Godless societies of the west and the east, were surprised at his move in putting the fate of the revolution in people's hand. None of the revolutions of the past, such as the communist revolution of China in 1949, the Russian Revolution of 1917, and the French Revolution of 1789, had dared to put to people's vote the ideology of their movements.
The late Imam was blessed with a rare foresight. His vision pierced the future and several times he stressed that the people are the real owners of the revolution and authority, since the Islamic Revolution is based on the ideals of justice and freedom, which stem from religious and spiritual values. The Imam proposed the Islamic Republic System as the best option and the grateful nation of Iran, having been freed from domestic tyranny and foreign hegemony, gave the vote. Over 98 percent of those who cast their votes backed the Islamic Republic System.
For analyzing the basis of the religious rule of the people, usually the trend of elections and the impacts of people's votes are considered as barometers. Popular religious rule is based on two principles. First is the presence of people on the scene and second is determination of the system ruling over the society in harmony with the political ideology of the masses. Thus, the foundations of modern Iran are based on the two principles of Islam and the Republic. The Islamic Republic of Iran's constitution has reiterated that the government of Iran is Islamic on the basis of the holy Qur'an. Moreover, the type of government in Iran is Republic in harmony with the Islamic nature of the people. As a matter of fact, the vote of the Iranian people for the Islamic Republic system defeated all the plots of the enemies to try to distort or hijack their grassroots movement.
Today, with the passage of three decades since that historic day, it is clear that the people of Iran and their aspirations have triumphed over all manmade systems, thanks to the divine laws of Islam. Today, free nations throughout the world, whether in Asia, Europe, Africa or the Americas, are deeply studying the dynamism of Iran's Islamic Republic system which inspires Muslim peoples and brings them to the goal of justice and real peace. It is obvious that the foresight of Imam Khomeini has triumphed against all enemies, in view of the fact that over the past 30 years Iran has held as many elections, for the presidency, for the parliament, for the Experts Assembly, and for the local councils, and is now all geared up to hold the 10th presidential elections in June with keen competition and promises of greater strength in the durability of the Islamic system, much to the frustration of Global Arrogance, especially the US.
