Brunei: Religious Teachers Must Master Al-Quran

Bandar Seri Begawan - Proper religious education is a defence against the negative influences that have infiltrated the society such as drugs, pornography and crime, especially among the youth who are unable to defend themselves against it.

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - Bandar Seri Begawan - Proper religious education is a defence against the negative influences that have infiltrated the society such as drugs, pornography and crime, especially among the youth who are unable to defend themselves against it.

It will not only save the youth but also the community and country, as Allah (SWT) has promised to protect and take care of those who hold on to their religion, said the Minister of Religious Affairs Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pg Hj Abdul Rahman yesterday at the official opening of the Regional Seminar on Religious Education held at the International Convention Centre.

"The ideal human has both worldly and spiritual education, but how can be shape them if we only focus on the worldly aspects, while the spiritual aspects are not given adequate attention," he said.

This is where the need for competent, charismatic and professional religious teachers who can deliver religious education effectively comes in, said the minister.

"With these kind of teachers, more children will enjoy going to religious classes as they feel comfortable with the teaching."

He added, "This is not an easy task, but through religious teachers training centres such as the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers College University (Kupu SB), InsyaAllah I believe we can achieve our goals."

In this regard, the minister stressed on aspects a religious teacher must be well-versed in, and that is reading the Quran - it is a disgrace if a teacher has not mastered in it.

"This is because Quran is the key to mastering the knowledge of Islam. Being an expert in it makes it easier to learn religion correctly and accurately," said Pg Dato Dr Hj Muhammad.
