(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The 12th edition of National Quran Week began on February 21 in the Algerian city of Dar-ul-Imam, An-Nahar-ul-Jadid daily reported.
Organized by the country’s Ministry of Aqwaf and Religious Affairs, the week features Quran competitions in the fields of memorization, recitation and interpretation.
There will also be lectures on themes like “Algerian Muslim Scholars’ Contribution to Strengthening Marjaiyat (religious referral) in Arab Maghreb Countries”, “Religious Life in Algeria before Islamic Era”, and “Structure of Quranic Education in Arab Maghreb Countries” .
Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika sent a message to the opening ceremony of the National Quran Week in which he said the concurrence of the week with the birth anniversary of the holy prophet of Islam (PBUH) was a blessing.
He also thanked the organizers and participating scholars and Faqihs.
Attending the Quran competitions of the program are students of Quranic schools and institutes. Those winning the top titles will represent Algeria in international Quranic events.
