Revolution imminent in Libya

Despite a bloody crackdown on the demonstrators, the victory of the Libyan revolution seems imminent with pro-democracy protesters holding their ground in the capital, Tripoli.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Protesters attacked the headquarters of the state television overnight and set fire to the offices of the People's Committees -- the mainstay of the government.

Gunshots were heard in Tripoli. Sources say Libyan leader Col. Muammar Gaddafi has come under mounting pressure amid unprecedented protests in the Libyan capital and defections by senior diplomats.

Also, reports say security forces killed scores of people in the country's second largest city, Benghazi.

Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports say Gaddafi has left the country.

The son of Gaddafi, Seif al-Islam, has warned against an ominous civil war in the country. He vowed that the regime would "fight to the last bullet" against "seditious elements."

Latest figures show the death toll from clashes in Libya's massive popular revolution against long-time ruler Gaddafi is nearing 300.

Protesters have been demanding the ouster of the Libyan leader, who has been in power for over 40 years.

The developments come as popular people's power revolutions continue to sweep the US-backed autocratic regimes across the Middle Eastern and North Africa.
