Anti-Mubarak protests turn violent

Pro-democracy protests in Egypt turn more violent as more than 100 protesters have been killed or wounded in the latest round of crack-down on demonstrations.

(AhlulBayt News Agency) - The violence occurred in the southern Kharga city on Tuesday.

Medics said on Wednesday at least 60 people were hit by live bullets after security forces opened fire on the demonstrators.

At least three people have been killed and 100 wounded in Kharga over the past 24 hours.

The death toll is expected to rise with some of the wounded in critical condition.

The violent crackdown on protests against President Hosni Mubarak has already claimed the lives of more than 300 people.

Parliament buildings blocked

Meanwhile, tensions are running high in Egypt as hundreds of anti-government protesters attempt to block parliamentary buildings and other government offices in Cairo.

Anti-government protests continue for the 16th day despite unprecedented concessions made by the Egyptian government -- including a pay hike for workers -- to calm public anger.

Thousands of demonstrators are still camped out in Cairo's Liberation Square as they refuse to stop their campaign to topple beleaguered Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

An increasing number of demonstrators are also turning their anger toward the US over its stance on the Egyptian revolution.
