Egypt Struggling for Justice, Iranian spokesperson Says

The Iranian spokesperson pointed out that what is happening in Egypt could have “very determining” effects on the developments in the Middle East

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - “Regarding Egypt's developments, as our country's positions have already been declared, the popular uprising is the one that seeks justice and aims to confront tyranny and oppression, stop dependence and return to the era of Egypt's dignity,” Mehmanparast said at his weekly press conference in the Iranian capital, Tehran, on Tuesday.

The Iranian spokesperson pointed out that what is happening in Egypt could have “very determining” effects on the developments in the Middle East.

“Naturally, certain countries see their interests in danger as a result of this popular movement and thus they resort to certain measures to disrupt the process so that the Egyptian nation won't achieve their objectives,” he added.

Mehmanparast, however, said that the Egyptian people are vigilant enough not to allow any interference in the domestic affairs of their country.

“If any country tries to interfere in the affairs of the country or derail the course of the popular uprising, the Egyptian people will definitely deal with them in a proper way,” he said, reiterating that the will of the Egyptian should be taken into consideration.

“We think the people of Egypt are aware enough and capable enough not to allow them to hinder this big movement … and definitely the interference of certain countries or legitimate regimes in order to create obstruction to this movement will remain in the minds of these people, and other world's nations will pass judgments about it.”

Massive opposition protests have been going on in crisis-hit Egypt since two weeks ago.

Protesters want Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to resign, vowing to continue their protest until he steps down.

More than 300 people are estimated to have been killed since the beginning of the protests.

This comes as on Monday millions of Egyptian protesters in central Cairo staged anti-US demonstrations, holding Washington responsible for Mubarak's grip on power.

Egyptians protesters had also protested against Mubarak's regime on Sunday and chanted many slogans against the United States, Israel and France.
