(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) has announced $ 2.78 million in aid for Somalia’s drought affected people.
The OIC has also called on its member states and international community to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to conflict decimated horn of Africa nation.
“We sent an urgent appeal to our member states and charity organizations in the Islamic World as well as International aid organizations to act quickly to help Somalia’s drought affected people” the OIC said in statement issued on Sunday.
It added that war-torn Somalia is in a state of sever drought and that about two million Somalis are on the verge of dying of starvation and thirst.
The Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) is an international organization with a permanent delegation to the United Nations, with 57 member states and has headquarters in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
OIC indicated that the people in Somalia’s drought affected regions started to flee because of the deteriorating living conditions there.
The organization urged donors and relief organizations to provide rapid assistance and support for the success of the program.
