(AhlulBayt News Agency) - Egyptian Prosecutor General Abdul Magid Mahmud took the measures while millions of Egyptian protesters demand the immediate resignation of President Hosni Mubarak, charging his regime with corruption.
The prosecutor general on Friday banned former Trade and Industry Minister Rashid Mohammed Rashid from traveling abroad and froze his bank accounts over “misappropriation of public funds,” state news agency reported.
Mahmud ordered the "preventative measures" against Rashid until the "end of the inquiry."
Former Interior Minister Habib al-Adly and business magnate Ahmed Ezz, a steel magnate and member of parliament from the ruling National Democratic Party, also face the same travel ban and asset freeze.
According to newly-appointed Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, Adly is under investigation “on charges of treason and causing a security vacuum.”
Facing mass anti-government protests, Mubarak dissolved his cabinet which included Rashid and Adly.
Rashid, however, said that he is ready to appear in any court to defend himself against the charges.
"I am astonished and shocked to hear this news. I was nominated to be trade minister for this government, but I rejected joining it," Rashid said.
Millions of Egyptians have taken to the streets over the past week and a half, demanding an immediate end to the Mubarak's 30-year rule.
On Friday, the opposition held “Day of Departure” demonstrations in the capital Cairo, Alexandria, Suez, Aswan, and Mansoura in an effort to force Mubarak to resign.
According to the United Nations, at least 300 people have been killed and thousands more injured during the revolution protests in Egypt.
The opposition has called for more demonstrations during the next seven days, which they have named the Week of Resolution.
