(AhlulBayt News Agency) - "Mubarak has shown that 30 years of misrule has left Egypt in a position where the common people need to revolt and say enough is enough,"African political anaylst Ayo Johnson told Press TV.
"It's a loud and clear message that for those with oppressive regimes, that have oppressed the people for generations, actions we are witnessing now can truly become [a means for revolution]," Johnson adds.
Mubarak appointing Omar Suleiman as Vice President was a futile attempt at swaying the revolution because [Suleiman] is considered part of the old regime and people would reject him.
"What you do find in Egypt is a president with a draconian style government for some 30 years," the expert stated.
The best potential candidate, Mohamed ElBaradei, "has been in the West and away from Egypt for a long period of time, and it remains to show if he can lead that country," said Johnson.
He also found that the best candidate to lead the country so far has been "the Muslim Brotherhood."
"Nonetheless, we do not have credible realistic opposition that can meet the young aspiring revolutionaries in terms of the large number of younger people, who are very reliant on the internet, and are very highly educated," Johnson noted.
"Mubarak's time is truly up, and that's why you had [US Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton stating today that the transition should not start in September, but should start now,"Johnson concluded.
