Abuja Muslim Forum celebrates 20th anniversary

The umbrella body of all Islamic organizations in Abuja, the Abuja Muslim Forum (AMF) has begun activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its formation.

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The umbrella body of all Islamic organizations in Abuja, the Abuja Muslim Forum (AMF) has begun activities to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its formation.

AMF’s Ameer (president), Engr. Musa Onsachi Aliyu, told newsmen yesterday in Abuja that the forum has rolled out a week-long activities beginning next Monday, which will include visits to hospitals, children homes, prisons and grave yard.

He also said that an award dinner will be hold on Tuesday at Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre and will be followed by two days public lectures/symposium on Saturday at the National Mosque, which will also witness the formal launching of ‘Muslim News forum Magazine’.

While recalling how the forum was formed, the Ameer stated that in January 1991, some groups of brothers and sisters came together in the only Friday Mosque then, in Area 1 and decided that after every Friday prayers, they will stay behind for 30-40 minutes to teach themselves the Hadith (Riyadus Saliheen) and admonish one another.

“That was the modest beginning of the forum under the leadership of my predecessor, Mallam Idrisu A. Usman and from that humble beginning was the seed of the forum sown and today, praise be to Allah the Most High, we can modestly say that AMF has grown into a full tree and is indeed a household name in the FCT, Nigeria and indeed beyond,” Aliyu said.

He said that one of the major challenges facing the forum is the attitude of founding members who had left the activities of the forum to the new members and have to be called upon before they pick interest in the forum’s activities

He listed some of the achievements of the forum to include, “the first Islamic organisation to hold a public enlightenment programme, adding that it has continued to be one of their cardinal activities in the last 20 years.

Other achievements were the first organization to embark on rural da’wah (which involves visitation to rural areas to offer humanitarian services; this include medical caravan teams and other philanthropic gestures and to pass the true message of Islam which is on peaceful co-existence and goodness) and the first organization to host a successful National Quranic Recitation Competition in the FCT among others.”
