Muslim youth urged to be circumspect during Christmas festivities

An Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Hussein Idris Molah, has cautioned Muslim youth not to over indulge in the Christmas and New Year festivities.

ACCRA, GNA, (Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - An Islamic Scholar, Sheikh Hussein Idris Molah, has cautioned Muslim youth not to over indulge in the Christmas and New Year festivities.

He said it was regrettable that on such festive occasions, some Muslim youth joined their Christian brothers and sisters at parties and converged at beaches, engage in horse riding, motor bike shows and some anti social activities.

Sheikh Molah gave the caution in a dawn (Fajir) Muslim prayer sermon at Libya Quarters, (UN) Madina Zongo on Friday.

He said some Muslim youth thus over indulge themselves and become nuisance to society, adding that this was against the teaching Islam.

Sheikh Molah said Muslims could wish their Christian brothers and sisters happy anniversary but it was unfortunate that some Muslim youth joined them and in doing so they indulged in practices that go against the teachings of Islam.

"The end result is that every year a number of the youth from Muslim communities over indulge in such celebrations and fall victim to accidents, petty fights, drunkenness and drowning when they go partying and swimming at the various beaches."

Sheikh Molah appealed to Muslim parents to call their children to order and monitor their movements so that they do not fall foul of the teachings of the Islamic religion that abhors over-indulgence in enjoyment, intake of alcohol and anti-social activities.

He also called for prayers for a change of heart by all the religious groupings to ensure incident-free end-of-year festivities as well as tolerance and peaceful co-existence amongst the various communities.

The Islamic Scholar appealed to Muslims to use the period to make sacrifices, lead decent lives, abhor wickedness, self-destruction, selfishness and greed, and the get-rich-quick attitude especially among the youth.

Sheikh Molah prayed for peace, harmony, prosperity and the general development of the country as the year comes to an end.
