(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - The leader of the African Shia Islamic Movement in Nigeria Sheikh Sayyid Ibraheem Zakzaky sacrificed animals on Eid Day to commemorate Prophet Ibraheem’s obedience to Allah’s command for him to sacrifice his son, Ismail (AS). Sheikh Zakzaky sacrificed rams, cows and camels on behalf of himself and members of his family on Tuesday the 10th of Dhul Hajj 1431 (16/11/10).

The meat was then shared out to people, neighbors, friends as well as the members of the community. Distributing meat among people is considered an essential part of the festival during this period.

The symbolism is in the attitude - a willingness to make sacrifices in Muslims lives in order to stay on the Straight Path. Each Muslim is expected to make sacrifices, giving up things that are important to them. A true Muslim, one who submits his or herself completely to the Allah, is willing to follow Allah's commands completely and obediently. It is this strength of heart, purity in faith, and willing obedience that Allah desires from Muslims.

Eid Kabir reminds Muslims, as they celebrate, of their own submission to Allah, and their own willingness to sacrifice anything to Allah's wishes.
