(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - As Muslims all over the world celebrate the Islamic feast of Eid-el-Kabir, Presidential Candidate of FRESH party, Rev. Chris Okotie, has urged Muslim faithful in the country to pray for a peaceful transition, as the electorate head for the polls to elect new leaders in 2011.
In a congratulatory message issued in Lagos yesterday, Rev. Okotie, who is also the Pastor of the Household of God Church, urged his teeming Muslim supporters to put the nation in prayer so as to avoid stalemate or chaos in the forthcoming elections, which he described as decisive.“We are at a crossroad; we need divine direction on which way to go. Therefore, as a religious and political leader myself, I believe that only God can guide us aright, considering the general state of insecurity and uncertainties facing the country at the moment”, he said.
He advised Muslims not to allow politicians use them to foment trouble, saying, when crisis erupts, it is the poor masses that suffer most. He said that once the people refused to be used as canon fodder, the ruble-rousers would be disempowered. He said that the FRESH party would surprise its opponents by recording massive support in the “Muslim North”, because people have since realised that only Rev. Okotie, a God-fearing leader, could create a peaceful environment and engender inter-faith unity and peace in the country.
“All of our opponents are used to playing the ethnic or religious card to whip up sentiments. But now, the people are wiser”, he added. Okotie promised balanced development and a level playing field in re-distribution of wealth and infrastructure in the country, if elected in 2011.
