National Art of Jawi Calligraphy Competition in Brunei

The National Art of Jawi Calligraphy Competition in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Islamic Dakwah Centre, aims to re-introduce the Islamic Khat or Calligraphy as one of the characteristics of Islamic Civilisation in the country.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency ; The National Art of Jawi Calligraphy Competition in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Islamic Dakwah Centre, aims to re-introduce the Islamic Khat or Calligraphy as one of the characteristics of Islamic Civilisation in the country. At the same time, it is to bring Muslims closer together in enjoying the beauty of the Islamic Art of Writing.

The competition is divided into three categories - A, B and C. The A Category is for Jawi Khat writers who had ever or never taken part in any such competition and who are well-practised in the Tsuluts type of khat writing.

The B category is specifically for those who can write in the Nasakh and Dewani type of Jawi writing. And the C Category is open to converts who had never won any competition organised by the Islamic Dakwah Centre and also for non-Muslims who can produce the Nasakh type of Jawi writing.

The competition is open to Brunei citizens who are skilled in Jawi Calligraphy. All forms of writing in all the categories must be original, and participants can only use waterproof ink and use the Brunei Darussalam Mushaf. Entry forms can be obtained at the Islamic Dakwah Centre or by contacting telephone line 2383996 extension 202 or 203 or the Dakwah Units in the other three districts. The closing date for the competition is the 30th of December.
