Ahlul Bayt News Agency, This edition, which is the 7th, kicked off on Monday, August 30, with the participation of contestants from 43 countries. It is held in the category of memorization of the holy Quran.
Addressing the opening ceremony, Bu Abdullah Ghulamullah, Algeria’s Minister of Awqaf and Religious Affairs said winning the contest and receiving prizes is not the only purpose of those attending the competition, but they see the event as an opportunity to meet Quranic youth from different countries.
He said cash prizes of 1 million, 800,000 and 600,000 Algerian Dinars will be given away to winners of the first to third ranks respectively.
Ghulamullah added that a Quranic calligraphy exhibition is held on the sidelines of the contest with the participation of calligraphers from the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Mohammad Mehdi Haghguyan represents the Islamic Republic of Iran at the competition and two Iranian Quranic masters Seyyed Morteza Sadat Fatemi and Mohammad Reza Haj Abolghasem are also present at the competition’s venue as special guest and supervisor.
Algeria’s 7th international Quran competition will conclude on the 27th day of the holy month of Ramadan.
