Egypt Organizes Quran Contest for the Mentally Challenged

A national Quran memorization competition for the mentally challenged began in Egypt’s capital of Cairo yesterday, August 15, As-Sabi Al-Yawm daily reported.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), Organized by the country’ Awqaf Minsitry, the contest will be running until the seventh day of the holy month of Ramadan (August 17).

Participants are competing in three categories of memorization of the entire holy Quran, memorization of 15 Juzes (parts) and memorization of one Juz of the Holy Book.

A total cash prize of 60000 Egyptian Liras will be awarded to winners of first and second positions in each category.

According to Egypt’s Awqaf Ministry this is the first time a Quran competition is held for mentally challenged. The ministry said it is considering to hold the contest internationally in the future.
