Comoros Quran Competition Slated for Muharram

The national Quran competition in the Comoros Islands will be held during the month of Muharram on the lunar calendar (December- January).

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), iqThis is according to Muhieddin Abdullah Ahmed, director of the country’s pavilion at the 18th Tehran International Quran Exhibition.  "The contest will be held on the occasion of the country’s independence day" he said.

“There will be two fields of memorization and recitation of the holy Quran in two categories for men and women,” he noted, adding that winners of the competition will represent the Comoros Islands in international Quranic events.

Mr. Ahmed said the national Quran competition is sponsored by the country’s President Ahmed Abdallah Mohamed Sambi and that winners receive cash prizes and other awards including Hajj pilgrimage.

The Comoros is an archipelago island nation in the Indian Ocean, located off the eastern coast of Africa with a population estimated at 798,000. Almost all the people in the Comoros Islands are Muslims.
