4 die in new violence between Christians and Muslims in Nigeria

JALINGO, Nigeria – A police official says violence between Christians and Muslims has erupted into bloodshed in southwestern Nigeria, leaving at least four people dead.

Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), JALINGO, Nigeria – A police official says violence between Christians and Muslims has erupted into bloodshed in southwestern Nigeria, leaving at least four people dead.

Taraba State Police Commissioner Aliyu Musa says the killings started Tuesday in the community of Bukari after Christian youths became angry about the location of a mosque. He told The Associated Press Wednesday that youths burned down the mosque, which launched a counterattack by Muslims.

Witnesses say security agents flooded the community Wednesday morning, bringing an uneasy calm.

Nigeria, a nation of 150 million people, is divided between the Christian-dominated south and the Muslim-held north. Violence between Christians and Muslims in central Nigeria has left hundreds dead since the start of the year.
