Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir) - Myanmar - Religion can play an important role in prevention and raising awareness about HIV, say religious leaders in Myanmar.
About 100 Buddhist, Christian, Muslim and Hindu leaders met with people living with HIV/AIDS recently in Yangon to remember those who had died of the disease. They also explored ways to help families whose members are living with the condition.
Hla Hla Swe, a Muslim member of the Myanmar Interfaith Network on AIDS that organized the event said religions in their own way can organize prevention programs and organize care and support for people living with HIV/AIDS. Collectively, they can also help people with treatment, without differentiating on the basis of religion, he added.
Khawn Taung, the network treasurer, said, members “realize the need of coordination and cooperation among religious leaders and those of faith groups to respond to HIV/AIDS.”
The Myanmar Interfaith Network on AIDS was established in November 2009 with 12 different groups representing Buddhists, Christians, Muslims and Hindus.
