Ahlul Bayt News Agency (ABNA.ir), JAKARTA, April 28 (Bernama) -- World Islamic scholars have urged western countries to put a halt to Islamofobia in what they said could worsen their relations with the Islamic world, Antara news agency repored an Indonesian Muslim scholar as saying Tuesday.
Din Syamsuddin, chairman of Muhammadiyah, Indonesia`s second largest Islamic organisation, was commenting on the result of a three-day meeting of 50 world Muslim scholars in Istanbul which ended Tuesday.
Din said Islamofobia had become a phenomenon in western countries as indicated by France`s ban on the burqa, a ban on the construction of new minarets in Switzerland, and the publication of a series of cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in Denmark.
"This phenomenon can ruin relations between the Islamic world and the West unless it is prevented from spreading," he said.
