Named after Morocco’s King Muhammad VI, the contest is held in the categories of memorization of the entire Quran along with Tarteel and Tafsir (interpretation) as well as memorization of 5 Hizbs along with Tajweed recitation.
Its aim is to foster contemplating the Noble Quran and encourage the Muslim youth to recite and memorize the holy book.
The 11-member judging panel is made up of Quran masters from Morocco, Jordan, Libya, Egypt and Tunisia. The panel is headed by Moroccan Quran reciter Abdullah Abu Ata’allah.
Entrants from 32 countries including Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt, Sudan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Syria, Palestine, Yemen, Bahrain, the Gambia, Kuwait, Lebanon, Niger, Senegal, Chad, the Central African Republic, Brunei, Qatar and Indonesia are taking part in the international Quran contest, organized by Morocco’s Awqaf and Charity Affairs Ministry.
The competition will run through Thursday, February 18.
