A Filipino woman who has resided in Brunei for more than five years converted to Islam in a ceremony that took place at the Tutong Dakwah Department multi-purpose hall.

The event began with the recital of al-fatihah and followed by the conversion ceremony.

Margerie Olingay Olaira, 38, recited the selawat and ‘dua kalimah syahadah’ with the guidance of the conversion officer at 2.44pm and later chose her new Muslim name Dayang Nurul Adzrinah binti Abdullah. A doa selamat was read to bless the ceremony.

According to Nurul Adzrinah, she chose Islam as her new religion because she has a strong belief that Islam is a true religion.

She added that staying in Brunei Darussalam for more than five years now has given her a chance to see the lifestyle of the Muslim community such as praying, fasting and many more.
